Big news: we’ve just hired our adult squash director.
For months we’d all been debating who would be the perfect pro for our adult players, to work under our Squash Director Peter Nicol. Someone who would embody the ethos of the non-profit, access-focused, inclusive squash community that we are building. Someone who is also a genius at coaching adults.
When we heard that a certain someone was available, we called Peter right away. Peter laughed and said “I’m way ahead of you – I just got off the phone with him.”
So that’s how we hired John Musto. Yep. The John Musto who is an icon of NYC squash. The John Musto who was a #1 ranked junior, a 4-time All-American at Yale, a PSA touring pro, and who played #1 for the US National Team in the Pan Am Games. The John Musto who is the current US and British Open champion in the Masters 50+ division.
And he’s an amazing teaching pro. He has the same level of passion for coaching a slow 58-year-old C player (that’d be me) as he does for working with a nationally-ranked college kid. He can coach as technically as you want, but he also understands the practical needs of middle-aged club players.
And, he communicates that passion in a way that is contagious. He’s a great ambassador for the sport.
For those of you who know John, I’m confident you’re as excited as we are. For those who don’t: you will be.
